Last week, we had a bourbon-filled blast in Louisville, Kentucky. When we arrived at the airport and were about to pass through the security check (which by the way took less than two minutes – gotta love small airports!), we witnessed a scene that neither of us will soon forget.
One of our military heroes had arrived home safely. He ran into the arms of his loved ones, waiting for him in the terminal. With tears and balloons and cheers erupting not just from them, but also random travelers who happened to be there in that moment, we were moved to tears.
The fact that it was Election Day seemed (at least for a moment) to be far from the minds of those in the terminal who witnessed this emotional reunion. And despite the fact that our flight was already boarding, we took that moment before passing through security to share in their joy, show our respect for his service, and gratitude that their loved one had returned home safe and sound.
On this Veteran’s Day, we salute all of our military heroes around the world who fight for our freedom and safety, wishing them all a safe and speedy return home to their families and loved ones.
We chose to make a donation to the USO’s grant-a-wish program to honor our veterans today. If you’d like to learn more about the program or how you too can donate, visit www.uso.org/grant-a-wish.
