As journalists, we are nosy by nature. On our final day of our Southern Colorado adventure trip, we spent it in Durango, with a stay at the historic Strater Hotel. When we heard BREW Pub and Kitchen was opening, the fifth brewpub for a town of roughly 17k, we had to scope it out.
Unfortunately, we missed the opening by a day and thus cannot tell you how the food and suds were. But we still managed to get a peek inside.
For a little background, after 16 years in the industry as the former Carver Brewing Co. head brewer, Erik Maxson finally has his own brewery and pub. And he’s sticking to the K.I.S.S. theme. Simple ingredients. Simple name: BREW Pub and Kitchen.
According to the Durango Herald, each beer will highlight one of the main ingredients: malt, hops, yeast and water. The beer highlighting water will be a “session beer” and low in alcohol content. A lager or Scottish ale will highlight the malt and so on.
And Maxson is not a narcissist. He’ll be showcasing other beers as well from local Colorado breweries.
On the food front, expect elevated pub-fare, like pork belly with apples & caramel sauce, beet and goat cheese salad and sauerkraut.
Originally slated to open in mid-December, we’re sending our congrats to BREW Pub and Kitchen’s long awaited debut today.
If there’s still no sign when you visit, just follow your nose for that lovely yeasty aroma surely wafting through the air.
