Let’s face it. Taking a flight is boring, especially in the physical department. But, it’s something we all endure, whether afraid of flying or not, to see the world. As of late, flight attendants, musicians, students and even beauty pageant contestants are taking to the aisles for a little 25k-feet-in-the-air shimmy. Maybe they danced in planes before, but now that everyone has a cell phone equipped with video recording, airplane dance videos abound! Knowing how painfully dull a flight can be, especially those 8+ hours ones, these airplane dance videos make us smile and we hope a dance breaks out on one of our flights someday.

We assume the dancers could only get up one by one in this Kanye West airplane dance video because of a FAA flight regulation. It’s beautiful nonetheless and well produced.

VietJet Air’s Scandalous Bikini Dance

As far as dance videos go, this is about as racy as a Disney cartoon. But maybe it had to do with the beauty pageant queens showing a little skin, as VietJet Air, Vietnam’s first private airline launched in 2011, was fined for the show. The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) fined the airline 20 million Vietnamese dong – or about $960. Here’s the reasoning (??) behind the decision, according to the chief inspector of CAAV, “They should have registered [with us] before they held the show. This is the first time an airline has organized a bikini dance aboard a flight in Vietnam.” He added to AFP that the show “violated local aviation regulations” by putting together “an unapproved show on a flight.” Although it is interesting to note, this was NOT the first unapproved airplane dance show on VietJet Air. Finnair Celebrates India Republic Day

On January 26th, like the 4th of July in the U.S., India celebrates their independence day, and this Finnish airline joined in on the celebrations. This might be our favorite of the airplane dance videos. One, Bollywood dancing and music rocks, it’s just so happy by nature. Two, it’s great to see the flight attendants so in to it (even the male flight attendant near the back). The passengers are loving it too. How great to be able to share that moment of joy in such a horribly dull setting. Way to be creative with your flight service Finnair! Put your hands in the air and shout “OOMMM, Shanti, OOMMM!”

Harlem Shake Dance on Frontier Air Triggers Federal Inquiry

Yep, yet another group of people in trouble for dancing on a plane. Gangham Style’s replacement viral dance, the Harlem Shake, was performed and filmed mid-February 2013 by Colorado College students aboard a Frontier Airlines flight headed for San Diego. Apparently Colorado College students make an art of the Harlem Shake and have filmed it all over their campus. This was probably one more location they could add to their CC Harlem Shake video library. The video and participants are currently under investigation with the FAA.
