Spring is full-on in most of the Western Hemisphere, but you’re in luck in Northern Idaho. Counting today, you have four more precious days to race down the glorious fresh powder trails among 2,900 acres of terrain on Schweitzer Mountain. And if you’re into motorized snow sports, there’s also rip-roaring snowmobiling on Schweitzer Mountain, which we chose to do when we were there in January.
Yep, we both crashed, Lanee into a tree and Lindsay merely toppled hers’ with grace. Here’s the good, the bad and the downright hilariously goofy highlights of snowmobiling on Schweitzer Mountain with Selkirk Powder:
But outdoor sports aren’t the only things the area offers. Nearby, Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho is like the Hamptons for Seattleites – a city dweller’s lakeside playground. CDA (as the locals refer to it) is a 40-minute drive from Spokane International Airport and an hour and a half drive from Schweitzer Mountain, and has an abundance of culinary, historical and outdoor excursions.
On a recent trip to Coeur d’ Alene (pronounced core-da-lane, which means ‘heart of awl’ in French), highlights included bald eagle watching, a trip to America’s oldest brothel in nearby Wallace, snowmobiling on Schweitzer Mountain and wine tasting at Pend d’ Orelle Winery in Sandpoint.
