This week’s theme of the Friday Twitter phenomenon? #Frifoto surprises. And Bellingham, Washington delivered many – from a bawdy brothel tour to a naughty creature of the sea.
Here’s the back story of our #FriFoto Surprises photo:
An oyster shucker from Taylor Shellfish Farms asked, “You ready to give it a whirl?” With eyes wide with shock (and horror) as took in the strange shape of the world’s largest burrowing clam, Lindsay shook her head furiously. Usually the gung-ho one (or insane, depending on how you look at) between the two of us, Lindsay piped up, “I’m not, but Lanee will!” I shoot her a look, sigh, and say, “Well, it’s not everyday you get to caress a clam.”
I was given only one piece of advice in handling the geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck): be careful, it gets excited.
Huh? I had no idea what that meant and grabbed the clam by its ‘horns’ and pointed the world’s most phallic food in Lindsay’s direction.
She screamed. SQUIRT! Out shot a powerful stream of water. We both screamed!
“Apparently he likes you,” the shucker chuckled.
Surprise, surprise….not only does the geoduck ‘grow’ (and shrink) but it also squirts waters randomly!
And for more on what we deemed as the world’s most x-rated food on the planet, here’s a little video describing what you’re in store when you handle a geoduck:
This is the first time the Voyage Vixens have done a blog post on #Frifoto, but since we love the concept of worldwide photo sharing , we’ll be doing a post every few weeks, telling a wee story about our #frifoto submission and picking a few of our favorites that captured the week’s theme.
Favorite picks that either made us laugh, shocked us or personified the emotion surprise:
