Toronto’s newest, tallest extreme urban adventure is hands-down the CN Tower Edgewalk. The city’s tallest attraction now gives thrill seekers a chance to walk OUTSIDE the tower – around the circumference of the roof, 1,168 feet above the ground. That’s right – way up there – way out there!
You will be strapped in by a harness that attaches to a rail overhead, but there is no railing to hold on to. You walk to the edge, and it’s straight down to the bottom! Don’t worry – the harnesses keep you safe, but it’s the mental challenge of getting over your fear and natural impulses that scream, “back up! don’t do this!”
The CN Tower EdgeWalk experience begins on the ground level of the Tower at base camp. Once in the CN Tower’ s main entrance, signage will direct walkers through the retail store to the EdgeWalk entrance. The Walk itself starts and ends on the south side of the main Tower pod, above 360 Restaurant.
Once out on the edge, you have the opportunity to participate in various activities such as “toes over toronto” where you hang your feet over the edge, and the option to hang both backwards and lean forward supported by the harness, hands-free if you wish, above the city’s skyscrapers and traffic with nothing but air between you and the ground, way waaaaayy below.
You’ve heard that at tall heights there’s the impulse to jump? It’s real! Vertigo sets in. Hearts pound. Knees tremble. It’s not normal. It’s just not natural to be this high up without a barrier between you and the ground below. And that is the beauty of this urban adventure and what makes it such a thrill!
Given the weather in Toronto, the CN Tower Edgewalk is seasonal. Bookings are now available for season 3, which begins April 15, 2013. The experience takes 1.5 hours total, but the outdoor walk itself is just 20 to 30 minutes. A special walk suit is provided that is worn over top of your clothing. Hats, glove and jackets will be provided according to weather conditions. The EdgeWalk at the CN Tower operates seasonally in all weather except for electrical storms, high winds or other extreme weather conditions.
Walk leaders carry digital cameras and GoPro video cameras so all participants receive a complimentary video and printed photo of their experience. Tickets are $175* and include the video, printed photo, certificate of achievement and re-entry to CN Tower. You will also receive a Tower Experience Ticket which includes access to LookOut, Glass Floor, SkyPod, Movie and Motion Theatre Ride.
*Note: you will be subject to a breathalyzer test before hand, so skip the beer to take the so-called edge off and instead head across the street after to the Steam Whistle Brewery to celebrate conquering the CN Tower Edgewalk!
