Living in Los Angeles, La Paz, Baja California, Mexico is an easy two-and-a-half hour flight for a tropical getaway of sand, surf and of course, lots of tequila. Before exploring La Paz, we headed south to the tiny artist and surfer haven of Todos Santos. As one of the only “Magic Towns” (Pueblos Mágicos) in Baja, a designation the government of Mexico gives its historical towns, there is mucho magic to experience here.
In two days, we managed to explore the town’s art galleries, artisan silver shops, hidden beaches, wild horses and local watering holes. Highlights of our trip, as depicted in the video, include meeting zany locals, off-roading in a rental car, accidentally destroying a painting and taking in the sunset from the best rooftop spot in Todos Santos.

Cool reasons to visit throughout the year include:
Leatherback Turtle Nesting, Nov – Feb
If you’re a nature, science or turtle lover, plan your visit to Todos Santos between Nov. 15 and early February, when conservation organizations such as Tortugueros La Playitas are releasing the hatchlings of endangered turtle species into the sea. One of the beaches near Todos Santos, Agua Blanca, has been identified as one of the most important nesting sites of the Pacific Leatherback Turtle.
Annual Mango Festival, July/Aug
If you’re a mango lover, you won’t want to miss this. Mango served a thousand ways, but all deliciously ripe and in season.
Todos Santos Music Festival, Jan
The Todos Santos Music Festival was created by Peter Buck of REM and brought to life by The Hotel California to add music to the long list of artistic endeavors hosted in this Pueblo Magico in Baja Sur, Mexico. The festival spans three weeks in January.
Nice story and video on Todos Santos! When we visit Cabo San Lucas, we like to make a daytrip to Todos – always fun to check out the art galleries and restaurants… Todos is included in our “Cabo Insider” travel app (it’s the highest user-rated app on Cabo) http://www.sandinmysuitcase.com/travel-apps/cabo-insider/
Thanks for the great Cabo travel app tip!
