Depending on how old you are, you may or may not remember the Sex on the Beach cocktail from the 80s. All trends, whether fashion, design, food or drink, come swinging back around eventually. Yes, the Sex on the Beach cocktail is back but this time it’s a ready-to-drink version, presented in a sleek white bottle that looks like Ralph Lauren designed it. XB Sex on the Beach, contains vodka made from Switzerland and a blend of orange, cranberry, peach and grape juices.
XB is great for day poolside or at the beach for three reasons:
1. You only have to pack one bottle and maybe some sparkling water for a delicious drink. And single serving cans, even more beach-friendly, are also available.
2. XB is only 12.5% alcohol, so it’s like having a glass of wine. No worries of overindulging if you have a second glass.
3. It was dreamed up on the shores of St. Tropez and to reflect its origins, the design of the bottle is nod to the nautical world – complete with a vintage swimsuit clad “vixen” mascot.
At an event last night at Petite Ermitage, one of our favorite in-the-know hotels in West Hollywood, we got to sample a few cocktails made with XB Sex on the Beach. Created by Brian Stewart, one of L.A.’s well-known mixologists, here is the recipe to our favorite XB Cocktail recipe:
Love Potion #3
1.5 oz Tequila
.75 oz lime juice
.50 oz Orgeat (almond syrup)
.75 oz XB
Pour ingredients in a shaker, stir and then pour over ice in a rocks glass. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg and orange blossom water. Ok, we’re not sure where to find orange blossom water, so just ignore the final step.
