Over six thousand entrants from 124 different countries submitted a whopping 28k images – the largest to date – for the chance to win the Red Bull Illume photography contest. Fifty amazing adventure photos in ten categories were selected by international judges and photo editors from renowned publications.
The overall winner, Lorenz Holder (one of his photo’s above), received the new Leica S camera and a broncolor Move Outdoor kit as well as Sun-Sniper gear worth over €2,000, while category winners each received a Leica X2, a broncolor Para 88 P Kit and an assortment of Sun-Sniper gear.
The 50 finalist images will travel around the world in the Red Bull Illume stand-alone photo exhibition on 10 x 10′ lightboxes (giant illuminated cubes). To showcase the illumination, the exhibitions are only open at night-time.
Next month, this one-of-a-kind free public nighttime exhibition will debut in North America – specifically Scottsdale, Arizona, from November 14 through 24.
The competition aims to showcase the most exciting and creative action sports photography on the planet as art to the wider public audience.
The photos will then travel to British Columbia and then Atlanta before leaving the continent. Unfortunately, the amazing adventure photos exhibit is not coming to L.A. so we’re just gonna have to settle for checking them out on the Illume website or picking up the book with all 250 finalist images.

Yep, we did this too. Ok not quite as high or as long, but here’s the proof of us ice climbing in Ouray, CO. What a trip!
