Tribe Hotel Nairobi, Kenya

March 11, 2013 By

We stayed at Tribe Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya before heading out on safari in Kenya and Tanzania. We loved the convenience of the location, the beautiful rooms and expansive lobby, but our favorite part of the hotel was the incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. When safety was a concern at the time in Nairobi, Tribe was our safe home away from home.

Tribe’s motto is “one tribe, the human race” and you get a sense of that when you walk through the doors, although the hotel is anything but a tribal-like native experience. The decor exudes modern elegance combined with African warmth.

Their Italian chef, Luca Alvarez Molteni, was a character who revamped the menu of the hotel’s restaurant, JIKO, when he arrived. The journey to get there, however, is an interesting one, as Luca in perfect Italian fashion refused to cook in the kitchen until renovations were complete to his satisfaction (which took a full year!)

Now, the menu is a fusion of traditional Italian with a bit of African and other global influences. The fish dishes and soups are delicious, as are the arancini, served in a floating arrangement that Luca designed. All of his food is served with flair and artistry, but not so much that it’s too pretty to devour! His wife is the pastry and dessert chef, and serves up an impressive array of sweets, should you have the urge.

The rooms are comfortable, clean, and when you’ve taken a far journey, the one thing you don’t want to compromise on is comfort. No need to worry about that at Tribe.

Our flight from Istanbul arrived at 2 a.m. Yes, 2 a.m. And the lovely driver from Tribe was there waiting for us to help with bags and transport us safely to the hotel. This is not the town to take a taxi at that hour of the morning. Arrange for a pick-up in advance of your arrival.

The award-winning hotel is considered a boutique, but don’t be fooled by the label. It’s not a small hotel by any means and with 24-hour room service and other amenities, it doesn’t have the “charm” that many smaller boutiques have, which quite frankly isn’t such a bad thing when you’re arriving in Africa for the first time and adjusting to jet lag. Comfort and convenience in such situations are what you crave most and Tribe delivers it in spades.

Tribe Hotel Nairobi is also a perfect option for business travelers with services and facilities specifically designed to cater to the needs of the modern global-traveler and VIPs. Located so close to the U.S. Embassy, you will see diplomats, military personnel, and many in town for international business purposes and conferences. For this reason, Tribe places an emphasis on security and privacy, and the full-service concierge offers total commitment to guest comfort. The hotel’s Executive Resource Center meets any technology needs you may have.

WHO ARE THE VIXENS?

Lanee Lee and Lindsay Taub of Voyage Vixens

Hi! We're Lanee and Lindsay. You may have gotten to this page because you're intrigued by the word "vixens" or maybe you found some of our porn online (#travelporn, that is!). Either way, we are fully aware we are not what you typically think of when you hear the word "vixen", i.e. boobalicious babe wearing skintight minidresses in 6-inch heels. In our book, you don't need DDs to be a VV. To us -- vixens are smart and sassy women (and men, why not?!) who take action, scared sh**less or not, to turn their dreams into realities. Now you know a little about us; we'd like to get to know you. Connect with us on twitter, instagram, google+, pinterest, youtube, Facebook, tumblr, and periscope! (yes, we're on them all...#sorrynotsorry)
