Lindsay saw the photo above (by our friend Marshall Foster | Mixed Marshall Arts) and it inspired her to write this travel poetry. It’s the first poem she’s attempted in more than a decade and what Lanee likes to call an impromptu stream of consciousness moment.
We travel…
We travel not because we can
There’s no reason, no master plan
It’s the winds of change you see
When your heart is open and mind is free.
The people you meet far and near
Have stories to share, hearts to cheer
They inspire, frustrate, and devastate
But the human journey we can relate.
The longer you’re away
The easier it is to come what may
Rules fade and honesty returns
The soul is complete with what it yearns.
The present moment in time
Seems to meander like a vine
Into your spirit where it’s forever kept
Replacing the tears where the heart once wept.
For travel is food to feed the soul
Like a majestic mare to her baby foal
Full of life and lessons to hold dear
Letting go of pain, worry, and most of all fear.
The unknown is what draws you in
Testing the mind when in a spin
To find balance, peace and stability
Among the chaos and mistakes, surrendering to humility.
You get into the car or board the plane
So often that others might say you’re insane
But the passion cannot be let go
Because you know without it you cannot grow.
The road is your home
The planet you roam
Desert to sea, mountain to plain
You swim, you soar, you dance in the rain.
Without the freedom to travel
You might as well dig up the gravel
For there’s no place we’d rather be
Than seeing the world, footloose and fancy free.
