As Los Angelenos in a land of palm trees and no seasons per se, a recent spa-centric trip to Quebec, Canada was a balm to the soul (and eyes) as Mother Nature’s wildly, technicolor fall foliage was at its peak. Inspired by the ridiculously vibrant oranges, yellows and reds of the trees’ leaves in the Mauricie and Lanaudière regions of Quebec, we compiled our favorite inspirational autumn quotes and photos.
“Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year.”
― Chad Sugg
“Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn.”
-Elizabeth Lawrence
“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
-William Cullen Bryant
“Fiery colors begin their yearly conquest of the hills, propelled by the autumn winds. Fall is the artist.” – Animal Crossing: Wild World (Nintendo video game)

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”
-George Eliot
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.”
― Lee Maynard
“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.”
― Jim Bishop
“I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
― Henry David Thoreau
“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.”
– John Burroughs
“The one red leaf, the last of its clan,
That dances as often as dance it can,
Hanging so light, and hanging so high,
On the topmost twig that looks up at the sky.”
-Samuel Taylor Coleridge
“Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.”
-Samuel Butler
“Oh how we love pumpkin season. You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right? Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin…. We anxiously anticipate it every year.” – Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer, October 2010
“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”
― Lauren DeStefano, Wither
“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.”
― John Donne
“There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been!”
-Percy Bysshe Shelley
“The season for enjoying the fullness of life — partaking of the harvest, sharing the harvest with others, and reinvesting and saving portions of the harvest for yet another season of growth.”
-Denis Waitley
Most photos were taken on our trip to Quebec last week to check out their fab Nordic spa culture. Otherwise, it’s noted where the photo was taken.
