If you are someone who loves the adrenaline rush of zip lining, there’s no better Puerto Rico canopy tour than at ToroVerde, a “must visit” place while on the island. Ecological Adventure Park in Orocovis is where you can spend endless hours enjoying some of the most breathtaking views from the Puerto Rico Canopy while enjoying fun filled extreme sports activities.
It’s also home to the world’s highest and second longest zipline, the Beast — 853 feet high and 4745 feet in length (that is almost a mile long) — and you can reach speeds of up to 80 mpg while flying superhero-style across the valley.
They offer five different activities that you can choose from — the Canopy Tour, the Beast, the Wild Bull, Escape If You Can and Mountain Biking. You need a couple days to complete them all. But they offer half day and full day packages also.
It was selected by “Tour and Travel Magazine” as the 23rd “Coolest new Place in the World” to visit in 2011.
If you have time, do both the canopy tour (including The Beast) and the Wild Bull (suspended bridges tour). But don’t expect it to be easy — the zip lines are a piece of cake next to this course — these are adventure bridges. They swing, they move, and they sway while you are trying to cross them.
This part of ToroVerde is more like a ropes course really and your balance will be tested. Plus, if you’re afraid of heights, beware – you WILL have to look down to see where you’re stepping and in some places it’s hundreds of feet to the ground. Of course, you are clipped on to a safety line, but it still gets your heart pumping as you step from one board to the next. It’s a good upper body workout at the same time.
On one of the bridges (Salto del Coqui) you have to rappel from the middle of the bridge in order to continue on in the course. Your descent is controlled by one of the guides so no need to worry if you’ve never rappelled before – you won’t be in control any way – consider it a fun ride to the ground.
Toro Verde offers tours twice a day, once at 9 am and then again at 2 pm. Participants must be at least 12 years old, have a maximum weight of 250 pounds and be in good physical condition. The maximum group size for this course is 15 people.
